Walter, a puppy who was only 5 weeks old when he came to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA in December 2015, was first discovered to be deaf when living with a foster family.

Deaf dogs can have a harder time getting adopted, though they are just as intelligent and trainable as any other dog.

Luckily for Walter, in January of 2016, he found his forever family — and his new human sister, Julia, understands him better than most.

Julia is hearing impaired, too, and has formed a special bond with Walter. Not only that, but she is helping train and communicate with Walter by teaching him sign language.

Julia’s mom, Chrissy, told the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA,

“Walter was meant to be a part of our family. He and Julia have such a great bond together. Julia has taken over the big sister role and is loving teaching this little guy sign language. I never let her feel any different because of her hearing loss and it’s amazing how she is doing the same with Walter.”
