Dogs who have been abused are often fearful around humans, and may have trouble trusting them. Similarly, incarcerated individuals are often kept on the margins of society. When these two groups come together, however, the solace they find in each other is truly remarkable.

Castaways, which is a “documentary series chronicling the successful rehabilitation program of inmates training unwanted dogs for re-introduction or adoption,” helps bring attention to “the plight that both offenders and dogs face and how an unlikely union brings out a change in character of both man and beast.”

The tireless work of the individuals helping to save these dogs from death row and the impact it has on the inmates that work to rehabilitate them is incredible.
